If you were to use a search engine and search the word, “problem” you’ll find various definitions that exist. One of the most common versions is something along the the lines of, “…a mater or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome.” Pretty spot on right?
I’m embarrassed to say that it was only within the last two years that I learned what the real purpose of any business or service is. The easy answer (and the one that I would have stated by default) is, “to make money.” Wrong…the correct answer is, “to solve a problem”.
It passes the litmus test right? You have a leaky pipe…you call a plumber. The plumber solves the problem, and you give the plumber money for the value of solving your problem. This concept is fairly easy to grasp when there is a tangible service or product in the mix.
If you’re reading my blog, I’m going to make some assumptions. If you’ve made it this far I’m assuming you know that The American Excellence Initiative exists to be a change agent for those that seek transformational change but feel “stuck”. The most commonly accepted description of my services would probably fall under “public speaking” and “life-coaching” (in an upcoming blog we’ll cover the concept of a Success Training Officer or STO).
Let’s focus on why this blog may appeal to you. Knowing that businesses exist to solve problems, you might be wondering what’s the big problem that AEI solves? If you’re new to the coaching world, you might even be wondering if coaching is legitimate or if it’s a good option for you.
A quick walk through the internet reveals that “life coaching” is the world’s second fastest growing industry with an average yearly growth rate of 6.7%. Life coaching in the United States is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 4.85% from 2023 to 2030. That same internet tells us that the “self-improvement market” in Europe is anticipated to grow to $38.5 billion by 2033.
Is coaching a real thing? Yup…see above. If no one found value in coaching, it certainly would NOT be a thing. Do you need a coach (or an STO)? That depends on what problem you are grappling with. Can you solve it on your own? And what is the value of having the problem solved or solved quicker to you?
I’m going to take a strong, yet not surprising, position on this. Almost every single person can benefit from coaching, mentoring, consultation, and the keen perception of a third party. I read…A LOT… and a lot of what I read are books put out by people that are massively successful coaches, speakers, consultants, and entrepreneurs.
Almost without exception when asked what advice they would give someone just starting out on their journey (whatever it is), every successful person says to get a coach. In fact, often their only regret is not getting their own coach or mentor sooner.
Coaching and mentoring was the “secret sauce” that brought a systems based approach to success in my life to fruition. Left to my own devices, you would certainly not be reading this blog…
Let’s recap…is coaching real and does it have value? Yes…
Should you have a coach or mentor? Yes…regardless of what you do or what you’re trying to achieve. Coaches and mentors are a necessity to learn or refine any skill.
The big problem I solve here at AEI are those that are “stuck”. AEI works with people or groups that want transformational change, but are stuck by self-imposed limitations. Honestly…I focus on the “me’s” of the world. If someone is NOT motivated to make a change, no amount of coaching or mentoring will succeed.
To boil it down even further, AEI is most effective when working with a very niche’ market in the personal development world that almost NEVER receives services based on finances. If you work in law enforcement, fire, dispatch, emergency management, emergency medical series, the military, paramilitary contracts, or any other crisis response industry, I want to hear what your problem is.
Is AEI exclusive to those industries? Of course not…AEI services anyone that is living sub-optimally and has a strong desire for positive change.
Are we a good match for each other? I don’t know…what’s your problem? Regardless, I hope you subscribe to my blog and stay. It’s a small world, and if AEI has absolutely no insight on your problem, I’m sure we can find someone that does. I’d be honored if you stay and exchange ideas, share stories, and be a source of positive energy.
The goal here is to change culture one person at a time. Better people make better communities, better communities make better cities, better cities make better states, and better states make a better country.
